Police Dismantle International Pay-TV Pirate Network

The national police dismantled a network of digital television fraud that had access to all platforms in Europe through cardsharing that served to provide these services to commercial, neighborhood communities and individuals.

This network had 57 servers interconnected in various EU countries, of which 25 were located in Spain (Cordoba, Jaén, Sevilla, Cadiz, Almeria, Barcelona, Alicante, Murcia, Gran Canaria, Guipúzcoa, Mallorca, Madrid and Orense). Each server could support over 150 users for 15 euros a month.

In Spain, besides the 27 people arrested, another 77 have been accused. Abroad, the investigation continues through Europol.

This action against Pay-TV Piracy over the internet was launched a year ago, in July 2009.

The network was an international structure in which users communicated through private forums on the internet.

Cardsharing, in this instance, refers to the distribution via internet pay-TV signals without the authorization of its owner in exchange for monthly financial contributions from each registered user.
